THE CHALLENGE

As the county Sheriff, you are in constant search of alternative corrections methods, particularly for non-violent offenders. Despite increased investment in prison infrastructure, you continue to catch and prosecute more criminals than you can house in correctional facilities.

THE SOLUTION

One solution is home incarceration, in which the offender is sentenced to home confinement for a given period of time. In the past, electronic wristbands were employed to ensure that the prisoner remained at home, but this approach proved unreliable and expensive. Thanks to automatic speech recognition (ASR) technologies, cost-effective alternatives are available.

Speaker verification technology can be used to verify that home incarcerated prisoners are indeed home. A call is placed to the prisoner's home using automated outbound dialing products available from CT . The party who answers the phone is prompted to enter a password and the resulting voiceprint is then matched to one previously recorded. If the system verifies that the voice prints are identical, the call is terminated. If a match is not made, or the call is not answered, a police unit is dispatched to the residence.

No live operator is required, and thus the system is extremely cost effective. Taxpayers are happy, and you stand a good chance to win reelection.
